Lets Review The Facts
We live in world where social media platforms provide opportunities for everyone to have a voice and share their views about anything and everything. That is the beauty of living in a true democracy.
But sadly, these platforms also create the opportunity for certain groups or individuals with specific agendas to create ‘fake news’ or ‘false information’ that can circulate unchecked and manipulate public opinion.
From my perspective, I want to make sure our community fully understands the ‘True Facts’ about some issues – so they can decide what is right and what is wrong.
With this web page, I want to clear the air and explain the True Direction I have for the Sunshine Coast covering topics like those listed to the right. I will address more topics over time – but for regular updates, you can follow me on Facebook and Twitter.
Let’s Review The Facts Response To The COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic There is no doubt the Covid-19 pandemic will impact on how we live our lives, how we move about in our community, how we work and how we interact with one another. It is fair to say that no community will be left unscathed […]
Let’s Review The Facts Sunshine Coast Airport There has been a fair bit of misinformation circulating about the closure of the existing runway at the Sunshine Coast Airport, and this topic has come up in recent candidate forums. Prevailing winds have dogged the operation of the existing north-south runway at the Sunshine Coast Airport since […]
Let’s Review The Facts Tackling Congestion Our region’s population of more than 320,000 is projected to grow to 518,000 in 2041 – a little over twenty years from now. That’s an increase of 198,000 people. It is the equivalent of adding the population of Townsville to that of our Sunshine Coast today. Currently there are […]
Let’s Review The Facts Homelessness Issues like homelessness, domestic violence, illicit drug use and disengaged youth are a feature of all communities. The welfare and well-being of our community is everyone’s responsibility – Council just can’t ignore these issues and pretend they don’t exist. As Mayor, I am the only politician elected to represent the […]
Let’s Review The Facts Transparency In Council There are some commentators who would have you believe there is a lack of transparency by your Sunshine Coast Council. In fact, they would have you believe we consider all manner of things in confidential meetings, without any regard for the interests of the community. Well nothing could […]
Let’s Review The Facts Development Applications Development is an important sign of life in any community. Ask anyone who suffered during the Global Financial Crisis – a downturn that saw confidence disappear overnight, and really only return in the last 6 years. As much as 20% of our workforce gains their living from the development/construction and […]
Let’s Review The Facts Confidential Meeting Agenda Items Local Government in Queensland would have to be the most accountable of any level of Government in Australia. Generally, given it is free of party politics this also ensures the decisions made are made with the region and its long term future at heart. All resolutions of […]
Let’s Review The Facts The Importance Of Our Hinterland The Hinterland is a special place and a jewel in the natural landscape and appeal of our region. It provides a standard of liveability that is the envy of south east Queensland. Our Hinterland towns along the rail corridor will continue to grow in harmony with […]
Let’s Review The Facts Balancing Economic And Environmental Priorities When I was first elected as Mayor in 2012, the Sunshine Coast was on its knees. The region had the lowest levels of business confidence, high levels of unemployment, no commitments to the infrastructure that the region desperately needed and no relationship with the other tiers […]
Let’s Review The Facts Our Record On The Environment And Climate Change Under my leadership, our Sunshine Coast Council has been on a strong and consistent sustainability journey for many years. While we have had a focus on growing a stronger and more sustainable economy – because we had to – we have also made it […]

Let’s Review The Facts Maroochydore City Centre The Maroochydore City Centre is a 20 year plus project that will deliver an exciting new civic heart for the Sunshine Coast – and in excess of $350 million in public infrastructure and assets. It will also provide a catalyst for new employment, particularly in the professional services […]
Let’s Review The Facts Yaroomba Beach – Cost Of Defending Appeal The Yaroomba Beach development application is currently before the Planning and Environment Court so there is little that I can say about it at the present time. Chris Thompson knows that because he […]
